Take a look at this article from Edutopia on how to engage families of secondary students. While one point is to “start in elementary,” there are many other options. Can you host a “coffee with the principal” in a community center so parents don’t need to travel to you? How would this value impact over intentions? You could also check out this toolkit for engaging families and parents of high school students from the Harvard Family Research Project and the United Way.
NEA has compiled an infographic on the 8 Ps of Parental Involvement. This can serve as a great reminder as you plan family and community engagement implementation or refinement in your school.
