Because of their belief in Islam, the Hui people mainly have two major festivals each year: Eid and Eid al-Adha.
Eid
Ramadan is taught in September every year, and Hui people who have reached the age of twelve must fast (Although many Hui youth do not fast even when they reached the age ).
When it is the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan, Eid would start.
The celebration often lasts for 3 days.
During the Eid, From the dawn, Hui people would start washing, bathing, changing into new clothes. After that they would go to the mosque.
Today, in provinces like XingJiang, where most Chinese muslims like Hui people live, government stipulates one day holiday for the people of all ethnic groups in Eid
On the day of Eid al-Fitr, every household of Hui people must donate things (2.4 kg of flour per person or converted into cash). The purpose is to "help the poor and purify people's hearts". It follows muslims' virtues of helping the poor and sharing the joy of the festival with the poor.
