Population: The Hui is one of the Chinese minority with largest population in China, with a total population of 10,586,087 (2010, excluding Taiwan Province, according to the fifth census data).
Where do they live:The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is Hui people's main settlement. The district has a population of 1,862,500, about 18.9% of the total Hui population in the country. In addition, other areas with high Hui population (more than 200,000) include Beijing, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Yunnan, Gansu, and Xinjiang.
Origination: Starting from the Tang dynasty(651), Arab and Persian Muslim merchants came to China by sea for trading and settled in cities such as Guangzhou, Quanzhou, Hangzhou, Yangzhou and Chang'an. Many people married and gave birth to children, multiplied and settled for generations, who later became the ancestors of the Hui people.
