LEDs have a long (anode) and short (cathode) wire - the long goes on the + side of the battery - but to be simple, if the LED won’t light, try turning the battery over
Copper tape is fragile - links below have tips for folding corners
There are easy and more complex switches - some as simple putting a battery in a corner and folding to make the connection
These projects can be scaffolded - to make it easier provide a template on front and back showing where to place the tape
