BUSINESS PROJECT

Students from 4º ESO set up a new company in the third term. They became business people and in groups established all the basic principles of a new company and brand. In this project we worked cooperative learning, entrepreneurship, creativity and it was a learning to learn task.

Firstly, the Economy teacher Jose Rafael came to visit us in class to give us a speech about marketing, giving us tips and strategies to create a catching logo and slogan: thanks so much for your help!!

Then, it was time to get down to work. They had to decide the company name, slogan and logo. They had to establish as well all the business information: foundation date, headquarters, number of employees, annual revenue… It had to be as real as possible. Next step was to launch a new product: it had to be different and innovative (not limits to the imagination here). Our students demonstrated that they really were business people and launched really interesting and fascinating items that, who knows, one day could be real: Do it yourself perfumes, mobile phones with solar batteries, really smart sports clothes, elegant smart watches and the list goes on and on. They managed to demonstrate a high level of English and they learned how to use descriptive language, as they have to draw and describe all the products created.

What was next? They needed a curriculum vitae and they had to hire staff, so they decided important questions that they should include in a job interview. Job-related questions and vocabulary were given and they ended up building a job interview that they performed in class: they are ready now to face an interview!

Last but not least, they all created aTV commercial advertising their products: it was time to speak English!. The results were astonishing!

It’s been fun to work in groups and all of them enjoyed the experience of being independent and making decisions on their own. Learning can be fun and we, teachers, must trust in our students' abilities to learn autonomously.
