DP2 - Interim Reflection Session
Even if you don't end up including a lit review in your essay, this is usually a good approach to looking at a range of sources, making comparisons, and getting a sense of the opinions that are out there and the work that has already been done.
Literature reviews tend to be on academic sources, though that may not always be the case.
You can consult sample EEs to see how they approached this section of the essay, too!
This is not to say that you should do a lot of your research in this way, as the bias in research still leans heavily towards written work. BUT sometimes road blocks in your research comes from a lack of general knowledge, or a need to refresh what you know. University professors (and students) have recorded a lot of their classes and lectures and uploaded them to YouTube channels.
Uni lectures often include some discussion of past research, researchers, and specific sources, so they may give you a sense of what you can look for in addition to helping you better understand the topic.
These frustrating times suck, but they can also be a catalyst for change and growth. Record these temporary feelings in the RRS -- they can be useful artifacts for your second and third reflection.
Depending on your perspective, the variety of things that must be done in the Diploma Programme are either a blessing or a curse. Yes, they certainly add to students' stress, but it's also refreshing to know that you have something else you can turn your attention to.
Changing gears can help reset your mind, pump some much-needed serotonin into your system as you accomplish something else, and help you feel like you've made some kind of progress.
Everyone struggles with the EE -- if someone says they had an easy time with it they either 1) got a D, 2) didn't turn it in, or 3) lie effortlessly and often.
This is what we're here for! All of the adults in the school have been similarly "stuck" at some point in their educational careers.
We can help you brainstorm a way out of this situation, and at the very least we can commiserate.
Feeling stuck is an excellent reason to set up an informal catch-up session with your supervisor -- don't hesitate to do so!
