Role of Reflection in the EE

Reflection is one of the core attributes in the IB Learner Profile. The Extended Essay has abundant links to learner profile attributes, with things like Thinking, Open-mindedness, and Reflection being some of the strongest connections.

The purpose of reflection in the Extended Essay is to aid in the development of your Essay. Regular reflection on your research and its implications, on the decisions you make during the process, and on the way you wield your ATL skills can help you determine whether you are headed in the right direction. Reflection in the EE is a personal process that helps you get in touch with your work and your growth as a learner. The three written reflections frequently mention supervisors' advice but the best reflections reveal a student's engagement

EE Reflections are also a collaborative process. There are three mandatory reflection sessions with your supervisor; in these sessions, the two of you discuss your planning and progress and take away ideas for refinement and points of pride.
