DP1 - Semester 2 Outline Submission
The Extended Essay is an... extended process. It is helpful for students to be aware of their strengths as well as areas that you might need to work on.
While things like self-management and task-management skills are obviously helpful to the Extended Essay, so are affective skills like mindfulness, being able to persevere through difficult times, and understanding how to stay motivated.
Our second preparation activity will see us explore one of the most critical ATL skill categories (self-management) and get to know an idea called "Multiple Intelligences." You should not accept the results of this Multiple Intelligences quiz as an indication of what you are good at, and what you're not good at; instead, I want us to look at our results critically and consider whether this is really the "best" description of what we're good at.
There are things you need to remember and think about when beginning this EE journey.
•What subjects are you actually good at?
•How does this compare to the subjects you enjoy?
•What ATL skill categories are your strongest? (Social, Communication, Research, Self-Management, Thinking)
•How do you work and learn most effectively?
•What areas do you need to work on or improve in order to be successful?
You know yourself better than this task, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun. See ManageBac for the full details!
This task has two parts..
First, take the "Multiple Intelligences" quiz found here: https://alis.alberta.ca/career...
After taking the quiz, write 1-2 paragraphs about your results. Do you feel the quiz accurately represents your strengths? Does anything surprise you (in a good way or a less-good way?) How do you think the results match your understanding of yourself?
Second, some ATL work. Download and fill out the ATL Self-Management Self-Evaluation document attached to this calendar item. When you complete it, upload this file to the RRS, as well. I'm attaching my own copy of the form as an example.
What will be on the RRS when you are finished?
1. A journal entry with your 1-2 paragraphs about the Multiple Intelligences quiz.
2. An uploaded file -- your ATL self-evaluation for Self-Management skills.
More than just a slogan!
