DP1 - First Official Check-In
Reflection is worth up to 4 points in your final EE grade (out of 30.) Good reflections, combined with a decent research question and even subpar-performance on the EE itself can lead to a passing grade.
In stronger essays, solid reflections can be the difference between a C and a B, or between a B and an A.
These official check-in meetings are, at a minimum, you are meeting with your supervisor and keeping them up-to-date on any new work or information in the past few months. In practice, most MDID students are meeting and interacting with their supervisors more often than that. After everything else for your EE is complete, you will now have 500 words (600 characters for Chinese!) in order to show off your growth as a learner and evaluate your own experience.
Once a reflection is entered into ManageBac, it will be LOCKED - no further edits. So please make sure when you are finished with your final reflection, YOU ARE FINISHED.
Your researching and reflections in MDID in the second semester of DP1 have a check-in every 2-3 weeks. This is similar to you providing evidence/reflections for your CAS experiences. It is a little box that shows you are still thinking about this project, and your supervisors/coordinators can comment on what you have done as well. Ultimately, you will be using the notes you left here as part of your planning and progress for the first two official meetings.
In MDID, we complete our official meetings always around the same time each year.
April , DP1 - First Meeting
Sept, DP2 - Interim Meeting
Dec, DP2 - Final Meeting (Viva Voce)
Meetings should be held between April 13TH and April 30th. Note that G12 Eternal Exams are happening during this time period, so most teachers will also be watching those near the end of this time period. That means try to plan for something earlier than later.
Some people are in good shape to have a meeting quite soon, while others need to prepare a bit more (nail down a topic, have a preliminary RQ, do some starting research, etc.)
You MUST walk into the first reflection session fully prepared!
The end goal of this meeting to to make sure that you are prepared to submit an as-close-to-complete outline of your essay as possible by the end of June. If you don't think that will be capable, then you need to ruminate on why that may not be feasible (haven't done enough work yet, still have an unclear RQ, etc.) and then come up with an PLAN OF ACTION to make it happen!
