Please check back here in the next few weeks for information about student club opportunities!

Labor Day Holiday

Millard Public Schools will be closed on Monday, September 4th due to the Labor Day holiday. In addition, students will have no school the following day because of a Teacher Work Day. School will be in session again on Wednesday, September 6th.

📚 Curriculum Information

As your student begins a new school year, it's important to stay informed about classroom expectations, school procedures, and the curriculum your child will be learning. Your child's fifth grade teacher will be sending you a presentation to learn more about the amazing opportunities fifth grade has to offer! We invite you to review this information and reach out with any questions or concerns you may have about your student's last year of elementary school.

🎻 Orchestra and Band    🎷

We are excited to announce that orchestra and band will be starting the week of August 28th! Please make sure your fifth grader brings their instrument and sheet music to school on lesson days. You can always find the schedules as well as contact information for Mrs. Kemp and Mr. Campbell under our Important Information tab on the 5th Grade main page.

MAP Testing

Fifth grade has worked hard the last two weeks to complete their MAP Assessments. We will share your fifth grader's beginning of the year data at our fall conferences in October.

Yearbook Baby Pics

Just a reminder to send in a baby photo of your fifth grader for our yearbook. All photos will be returned upon being scanned by our amazing yearbook volunteers!

Water Bottles

Please remember to send your fifth grader to school each day with a water bottle. Our water bottle refilling stations are available to use throughout the day.  Juice, soda, and water flavoring mix-ins are not permitted.

Meet Our NEW Counselor

For the 2023-2024 school year, Ms. Victoria Hasiak will be taking on the dual role of school psychologist and student guidance counselor. As always, we are  here to help and support your family. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Hasiak or the fifth grade team if you feel your fifth grader is needing specific supports during the school year.

iPads at Home

Student iPads are an educational tool used each and every day within the classroom. We ask that iPads do NOT travel home with students each day. This ensures that iPads are charged and ready to go for our next school day. At times, students may need to take their iPad home to complete a homework assignment. A student should ask their teacher for permission to take the iPad home knowing they are fully responsible for the device.

Handle With Care

If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, we want to help. We understand that families are not always able to share details and that's okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, email your child's teacher and type "Handle with Care" in the email subject line. Nothing else will be said or asked. This lets us know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.

School Dismissal

Please be sure to discuss your family's plan for where to meet at dismissal time. By establishing a dismissal routine as a family, your child can feel confident about the end of their school day.  Remember that dismissal times have changed for our new school year - 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Spelling in 5th Grade

In 5th grade, our spelling is an important part of our curriculum.  Our goal is to make spelling an integral part of their everyday writing and part of the editing and revising process. We will still be working on specific spelling patterns each week during reading,  but we will not be doing spelling tests.
