Students will be taking their Reading MAP assessment on August 16th, 17th, and 18th. Our Math MAP assessment is scheduled for August 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Please be sure your child gets a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast before these important testing days.

Yearbook Baby Pics

Just a reminder to send in a baby photo of your fifth grader for our yearbook. All photos will be returned upon being scanned by our amazing yearbook volunteers!

Water Bottles

Please remember to send your fifth grader to school each day with a water bottle. Our water bottle refilling stations are available to use throughout the day.  Juice, soda, and water flavoring mix-ins are not permitted.

Meet Our NEW Counselor

For the 2023-2024 school year, Ms. Victoria Hasiak will be taking on the dual role of school psychologist and student guidance counselor. As always, we are  here to help and support your family. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Hasiak or the fifth grade team if you feel your fifth grader is needing specific supports during the school year.

iPads at Home

Student iPads are an educational tool used each and every day within the classroom. We ask that iPads do NOT travel home with students each day. This ensures that iPads are charged and ready to go for our next school day. At times, students may need to take their iPad home to complete a homework assignment. A student should ask their teacher for permission to take the iPad home knowing they are fully responsible for the device.

Handle With Care

If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, we want to help. We understand that families are not always able to share details and that's okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, email your child's teacher and type "Handle with Care" in the email subject line. Nothing else will be said or asked. This lets us know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.

School Dismissal

Please be sure to discuss your family's plan for where to meet at dismissal time. By establishing a dismissal routine as a family, your child can feel confident about the end of their school day.  Remember that dismissal times have changed for our new school year - 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Spelling in 5th Grade

In 5th grade, our spelling is an important part of our curriculum.  Our goal is to make spelling an integral part of their everyday writing and part of the editing and revising process. We will still be working on specific spelling patterns each week during reading,  but we will not be doing spelling tests.
