Math Expressions is the newly adopted K-5 math curriculum.  Lessons are aligned to the Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards.  These are organized into 4 categories: Number Sense, Algebra, Geometry, and Data.

The goal is for students to build a deeper understanding of important mathematical ideas. There are high expectations for all learners allowing students to become critical thinkers and flexible in solving problems in a collaborative learning environment.  In our class you will see students working together, communicating and sharing ideas.

We will begin each lesson with some fluency or quick practiceStudent leaders come up to share different methods to solve problems and to display critical thinking.   We all participate in math talks, where students are comfortable sharing their thinking.  All students are active participants as we find all the different methods to solve one problem.

Next we discuss and practice the lesson of the day.  We do problems independently, in partners, and small groups.

Students work on the Homework page in class.  They are assigned the Remembering Page which has problems from the lesson learned that day and previous learned lessons.

The fluency goal for 5th grade is to make individual progress in all four operations. Students should still continue to work on their math fluency at school and at home.
