Physical Education / Health

Physical Education contributes to, and enhances physical growth and development. It is closely aligned with the academic process. Through individual and team sport activities, students learn and develop valuable life skills. Physical Education courses will include aspects of adventure education, fitness center and team sports.

The Physical Education department offers numerous opportunities for students to experience a variety of physical activities. The disciplines listed below will be integrated into the physical education class.

Health

This course of study includes the development of mature decision making regarding health behavior, sexuality, personal relations, substance use, conflict/resolution, family and community membership and responsibility. Any parent may exclude his/her child from any portion of the curriculum by submitting an exclusionary form or a letter to the principal. (State Required)

Adventure Ed

Adventure Ed is designed to give an approach to physical education and life that is engaging, active and challenging, while placing a high level of expectation within a caring and supportive atmosphere. The program brings equipment and activities designed and developed by Project USE (Urban Suburban Environment) to our students. Activities include, but are not limited to, games, wall climbs, repelling and belaying techniques. These activities emphasize the program's purpose of developing heightened problem solving and communication skills.

Fitness Center

In the fitness room, students are engaged at all times through different activities. Treadmills, rowing machines, xbox kinect, wii fit, p90x, and other interactive games to increase their heart rate. Through the use of technology the students can achieve their fitness goals. In addition, students play multiple sports outside such as ultimate frisbee, soccer, football, basketball and other sports.

Team Sports

Students will participate in team sports such as soccer, kickball, flag football, volleyball, basketball, track & field, softball and tennis.
