Job-seeking Workshop for new graduates and family stay visa holders in 2025

Tokyo, March 10th 2023

The Non-profit Organization MPKEN initiated the Job-seeking Workshop in 2011 and has since assisted over 500 foreign job seekers in Japan.

In March of this year, the organization held a series of three sessions for new graduates in 2025 and holders of family stay visas in Tokyo. The program took place in person every Sunday from February 25 to March 10. Additionally, MPKEN provided online counseling sessions to offer more comprehensive support to those in need. A total of 18 individuals participated in the program, representing a diverse range of backgrounds, including international students currently enrolled in universities or vocational schools, housewives managing childcare responsibilities, and pregnant women.

The study session was led by Ms. Yoshino, who holds the position of human resource development manager at a prominent temporary staffing agency.

She delivered an engaging and informative lesson, infused with humor, which captivated the participants. Ms. Yoshino's supportive demeanor fostered an environment conducive to open discussion, enabling students to freely exchange their thoughts.

The lecture was dynamic, punctuated by lively interactions and abundant commentary from the attendees.

During the first session, we delved into topics such as Japanese job seeking schedules, resume writing, and self-analysis.

Ms. Yoshino provided comprehensive explanations of the fundamentals of job hunting in Japan. In the interactive portion of the session, participants engaged in discussions centered around questions like "Why do you aspire to work in Japan?" and "What steps are necessary to secure employment in Japan?"

It was evident that everyone present was deeply contemplating their future endeavors. Given that many of the students were embarking on their first job search in Japan, they appeared to grapple with organizing and articulating their thoughts effectively.

During the second session, participants engaged in mock interviews with Japanese staff. Following the practice interviews, many expressed the need for additional preparation. It became apparent that thorough self-analysis is essential for effectively answering interview questions.

The final session focused on the various job opportunities available for foreigners and the specific qualities sought in applicants. Crafting a personal PR based on this understanding can significantly enhance effectiveness.

Ms. Yoshino elucidated the topic using concrete examples, making it easily comprehensible for everyone. I'm confident that her approach enabled participants to envision their own scenarios more clearly.

The study session took place in a shared office space generously provided by our sponsor, Smiles Mobile Remittance.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Smiles for their support!

The stylish ambiance of the office left a lasting impression on everyone ✨.

Some students were particularly inspired, expressing their desire to work in such a chic environment and pledging to give their best effort in their job search.

It's evident that the working environment plays a crucial role in motivating individuals.

Ms. Trinh, a Vietnamese staff member at Smiles Mobile Remittance, graciously shared her work experience with us! Students had the invaluable opportunity to hear firsthand insights from someone actively working in Japan. Ms. Trinh elaborated on her past roles, current responsibilities at the company, and her own journey in job seeking.

Smiles Mobile Remittance, a company specializing in mobile overseas remittance services, boasts a diverse workforce including Vietnamese employees. This unique aspect provided students with a valuable glimpse into a workplace where senior Vietnamese staff members thrive. The study session held at Smiles Mobile Remittance offered an enriching experience for all involved.

Participants of the Job-seeking Workshop expressed newfound clarity and confidence in their career pursuits.

One remarked, "I didn't know what kind of work I wanted to do, but now I can see it through self-analysis."

Another shared, "I now know how to search for a job," while another exclaimed, "I now know what to highlight in my personal PR!"

For those embarking on their first job search, it's understandable to feel unsure of where to begin.

MPKEN remains dedicated to supporting foreign residents navigating job seeking in Japan. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance. We are committed to assisting all participants in their job search journey!
