After installing the app you can connect directly to the UNI Crisis Line or anonymously report a confidential tip on bullying, school threats of violence, or concern about someone in crisis. Crisis Line staff can assist with a wide variety of problems, including emotional crisis, grief and loss, drug and alcohol problems, mental health issues, self-harm, and suicidal behavior.
You can also use the SafeUT website if you don't have a mobile device. You will have the ability to submit an anonymous tip on students who may be in danger or chat or speak to a crisis counselor at any time. You can set Moutain Heights Academy as your school on the app.
HOW TO HELP
You might have a friend or family member who has talked with you about being suicidal and you want to help, but you aren’t sure how. You don’t want them to be upset and you don’t want “to get them in trouble” or “tattle on them”. First, they are talking about it because they want help. Second, talk to any trusted adult to get your friend the help they need: a parent or relative, a close family friend, a teacher or counselor, etc.
HOW TO HAVE A CONVERSATION
Suicide is a real risk for youth, and many youth who feel suicidal are not likely to seek help directly. It is important to talk directly to youth about mental health to send the message that mental health challenges are common, and people can work through them and live a fulfilling life – sometimes it just takes a little extra help or support.
SafeUT provides helpful information on how to have a conversation with your child about mental health challenges.
