The big leaf maple can grow up to 114 ft tall. When it is young it has smooth green bark but when it is older it’s terns a dark brown and it gets ridges. loads of moss, lichen, and ferns grow on it. It has big green leaves with 5 lobes when in fall before they fall they turn a beautiful orange. In spring the trees get light green blossoms. they are edible and they have a nutty taste. Where can I find it you may find it in low and mid level elevation in coastal ranges like Alaska through California the big leaf maple gross very fast when it is young but it grows pretty slowly when it gets older. the growth rate is the same as the red alder. (plant card burke)
