All Modern teachers are associated with Modern as independent contractors and not as employees but rather as “at will” contractors. This means that this contracting arrangement is a matter of continuing agreement between the contracted teacher and MLC and, as a result, either party may decide to end the association at any time. An instructor’s contract may be terminated for any reason but especially for any of the following reasons:
1. Resignation
2. Discharge for violation of Modern policies regarding:
- Attendance (Absenteeism, Tardiness, and Job Abandonment)
- Conflict of Interest
- Treatment of Confidential Information
- Unprofessional Conduct
- Failure to Comply with Modern Policies and Procedures
- Progressive Corrective Action
- Unsatisfactory Work Performance
3. If in an authorized manager’s judgment the best interests of Modern will be served by terminating the employment/contract or association.
In the case of resignation, teachers are requested to submit a letter of resignation in writing and at least 30 days notice prior to end of service to sgenereux@modernlanguagecenter.com. Regardless of the reason, however, upon termination all teachers are required to return all material belonging to Modern. Failure to do so may result in delayed or reduced pay.
