Best Practice 3: Teaching Resources
The curriculum used in the Market Leader series is not only endorsed by Modern Language Center but also features prominently in its sales and marketing efforts. As such teachers should base their lessons plans, in as much as possible, around the textbook. Market Leader units all contain four lessons, each of which is designed to be completed in about 45-60 minutes. Because units should be completed after 9 hours of teaching time (three weeks of two 90-minute classes a week) teachers are asked to supplement these lessons with relevant activities based on the grammar points highlighted in Modern Language Center curriculum, once the Market Leader material has been completed. Only once these two resources have been exhausted should teachers turn to outside materials. When such outside materials are used, they should be tied, as much as possible, to reinforcing the Modern Language Center approach and the personal needs of the students. Examples of this include:
• vocabulary lessons that are tied to a group’s industry or personal needs
• grammar revision (that, though level appropriate, warrants review)
• workplace role-play.
