"PACE inspires and supports exceptional character through education, community partnerships and recognition, and they envision communities of exceptional character." (pacecommunity.org.)
Medical Lake School District began a partnership with Partners Advancing Character Education (PACE) in 2014 and we have found more and more ways to celebrate positive character every year. My role with PACE as the School Counselor is to promote a character trait every month throughout our student body in classrooms, in conversation with students and families and among staff. See below for a list of character traits that you can celebrate with your student(s).
Currently, we celebrate one student from every classroom every month for showing positive character. They receive a signed award from Principal Starr, a PACE bracelet, a yard sign and have their picture taken with other awardees which is then shared with staff and families. All monthly PACE students are also recognized on our PACE bulletin boards in the school hallways and by our ASB President and Vice President to the entire school over the intercom and then parents/guardians are invited to join their student for lunch in continued celebration. So yeah, we make PACE a big deal at Michael Anderson Elementary!
At the end of every school year PACE also recognizes one student from every school as the PACE Student of the Year. Our student body makes it quite difficult to decide on only one student to submit for this special award, and we are always very proud to announce our Student of the Year to their family, their class and to the school. The student and their family join our building and district leadership for an Awards breakfast to celebrate at Eastern Washington University with all West Plains schools.
