In the 2018 school year our staff at MAE began professional development to help us improve teaching lessons to students with an emphasis on how to help students comprehend the materials and achieve desired learning outcomes. Our work revolves around "learning targets" (the knowledge and skill required to meet an academic standard) and "performance scales" (a continuum highlighting levels of student knowledge and skill). As an educator outside of the classroom, my goal is to have my work with this initiative on social-emotional lessons mirror the work of classroom teachers. SEL lessons will be using our work around Growth Mindset during the 2018-19 school year as a foundation to build on with all grade levels through our lessons moving forward. All students will be responsible for tracking and assessing their learning using our learning targets and performance scales, which they will keep along with any lesson work in their Growth Mindset folders.Â
