The School Counseling Program at Michael Anderson uses Second Step to teach critical social-emotional skills to Transitional Kindergarten students. Yearly content areas from the curriculum include 1) Skills for Learning, 2) Empathy, 3) Emotion Management, 4) Friendship Skills, and 5) Problem Solving. Although the lessons are taught in the classroom, your student(s) will benefit from your help this year too! I would love for you to follow along with what I am teaching in the classroom. All parents/guardians are encouraged to sign up at www.secondstep.org using the activation key SSPE FAMI LY68. Our weekly lessons will not follow the scheduled lessons available to you on the website but the class will make it through the curriculum by the end of May. Students will also engage in additional lessons focused on bullying prevention and will take a "book break" and participate in team-building lessons following the conclusion of each content area.Â
If you have any questions about the Second Step program, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for supporting your child in learning these skills that lead to success in school and in life.
Weekly Second Step lessons loosely align with the following yearly schedule:
September-October: Skills for Learning
November-December: Bullying Prevention
January-February: Empathy
March: Emotion Management
April: Friendship Skills
May: Problem Solving & Review
