Poetry is a beautiful art form that allows people to express themselves through writing. However, many feel as if poetry is inaccessible or wonder where to start. Black-out poetry is a great opportunity to experiment with creative writing without having to start from scratch.
On Friday, May 2nd during Study Halls A & B, Mr. Gross, Mrs. Powers, Mrs. Bryan, & WAVE Peer Leaders organized our school's very own black-out poetry event (with snacks)!. Students received numerous different excerpts from different pieces of writing and were provided sharpies to select words and black-out the rest, creating their own unique poems. One student, Leanne Clease, even decided to use colored pencils rather than sharpies to black-out her poem. She created sketches around the words she had selected to convey her idea.
After the event, Mrs. Powers decided to fully black-out all the poems that students had not been able to. Then, a bulletin board with everyone's work included. Thank you so much to everyone involved in making this event possible!
