Q: What does PLOP stand for?
A: PLOP stands for the Peer Leader Outreach Program.
Q: What does PLOP do?
A: We collect money throughout the school and donate it to the community and food banks for those who are less fortunate. Our partners, such as HEIFER, give them sustainable resources. For example, instead of giving families eggs, they give them chickens so they can keep giving them eggs.
Q: What is your favorite part of PLOP?
A: My favorite part is that we get to help people around the world who don’t have access to as many things as we do.
Q: Why did you join PLOP?
A: I wanted to help people who are less fortunate and bring Millburn Middle School as a whole to help them and give them sustainable resources that last for years instead of days.
Q: What is PLOP currently working on?
A: We are currently working on the Thanksgiving food drive and letting students know about its effect. We are soon going to start selling candy canes for Operation SMILE.
Q: Are there any events or drives that students can participate in?
A: They can participate in the Thanksgiving food drive that is going on throughout the month of November and December, and later on, they can buy candy canes to support organizations.
Q: What is the Thanksgiving drive? Who is it helping and how can we help?
A: The Thanksgiving drive is when students can bring in canned goods that are placed in boxes in classrooms. Later in the week, they will be weighed, and each classroom will get a score. It goes to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Students can bring in canned proteins, shelf-stable milk, and packaged meals for a raffle that can be placed in front of the auditorium for a chance to win a fast pass for the cafeteria.
Q: What core value do you think PLOP resonates the most with?
A: It most correlates to citizenship because it shows our duty as citizens to help those around us. It also shows caring because we are spending our time and money on those who need it.
Q: To wrap this up, what message would you like everyone to know about PLOP?
A: I would like everyone to know that every little thing can help those around us, and our community can help other communities that may lack necessities.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: We, as members of PLOP, hope that Millburn’s efforts can help those around the world.
