Frayer Model

Visible Learning Strategy - The Frayer Model (a concept map) - this is a writing and organizational tool used to build student vocabulary and understanding of conceps. This technique requires students to define target vocabulary and apply their knowledge by generating examples and non-examples, giving characteristics, drawing a picture to illustrate the meaning of the word, or other applications. This leads to more retention of concepts and transfer of information from one learning experience to another.

Elementary Vocabulary

Students make connections between new vocabulary and their own lives, which leads to more retention.

Middle School Concepts

Students paraphrase and build on concepts alone and cooperatively to visualize and retain more information.

Math Concepts

Using the Frayer Model as a center in Math, or any subject, leads them to understand and retain more in depth learning.
