MECA HS PTA General Meeting November 21st , 2024

Attendees: Josh Ehrlich (PTA President), Monica Soto (PTA Secretary), Vivian Cruz (Parent Coordinator), Joelle Washington (PTA Treasurer), Felicita Isaac (School Staff), and 11 other parents/caregivers joined the call (list available upon request).
The josh started the meeting after confirming a quorum of PTA executive board members and parents.
Monica Soto PTA secretary scribed the following meeting notes.
1. Approval of October Meeting minutes: Josh shared the screen and showed the MECA PTA website on https://mecahspta.org . After making motion to approve minutes, members approved the minutes without opposition.
2. Principal’s Report: Ms Vivian provided the following announcements:
11/22 is a half/day classes due to Parent Teacher conferences from 1-3 pm
11/27 is Thanksgiving Feast and all parents are welcome to join or send a donated dish to share.
Ms Isaac added a clarification that BMCC may not follow the DOE calendar for the month of December and will still open for classes on Monday 12/23. Ms Isaac will confirm with BMCC professors if they individually will not require MECA students to come to class.
3. Treasurer’s Report: Joelle informed us there is nothing new to report. Joelle stated we are planning a Breakfast Bar for 12/04. She requested parents for donations or if they know of any other way to donate items for the event. Josh provided background of the event which the PTA did at the school last year as a fundraiser. Josh asked for other parents to join us on the sale of breakfast items to students.
4. President’s report
Josh informed the PTA is looking to partner with MECA CTE program for branding opportunities that PTA can use to fundraising. Josh reminded parents PTA fund raises are used for a Senior graduate scholarship and Teacher’s appreciation.
5. New Business- New Parent Member needed on School Leadership Team (SLT)
Monica suggested there is an opportunity for one more parent needed to balance the current SLT to replace a parent of a student that graduated last year. Josh provided an overview of the SLT and number of members in the team.
6. Feature Topic- MECA School Based Health Center by by Ms Leila Henry (Health Coordinator):
Ms Leila Henry provided a presentation (presentation can be found here) about the Health services provided by the health center located in the school campus building.
The highlights of the presentation were that:
These services are at no cost to families,
See students regardless of their health insurance of immigration students
Only see DOE students
Only 45% of MECA students are enrolled
Mental Health visit to the center does not need parent’s consent.
Encouraged parents to fill up the enrollment digital forms provided thru school and on links during the presentation.
