MECA HS PTA General Meeting February 28th, 2024

Attendees: Josh Ehrlich (PTA President), Monica Soto (PTA Secretary), Shelby Banks (PTA Treasurer), Vivian Cruz (School Parent coordinator), Julia Tseng (parent), Maria Lema (parent).

Meeting Started 7:12pm without Quorum of members.

1.      Approval of December minutes: At that point there was not quorum of members, meeting minutes will be moved to next PTA general meeting. Prior months minutes are posted in the www.mecahspta.org site.

2.      President’s report

Josh shared the following updates:

·         Parent workshop will be on Monday March 4th. The workshop will be presented by PowerTools and is titled Study Strategies That Work. Prior parent workshops were recorded. The PTA site has the links where to request those recordings.

·         We will start the nomination process for a 3rd member of Executive PTA Board. Our Treasurer is a parent of a Senior who will graduate this year.

·         We are planning a fundraising event and are looking into a breakfast bar event at school cafeteria.

3.      Treasurer’s Report: There is no activity to report but Shelby talked about what we do with funds we raise. Those funds go to scholarship for graduating seniors and recognition or teacher appreciation. Shelby added that our goal is to have enough funds to assist students related needs. If anyone has any ideas and suggestions for fundraising, please let us know.  

4.      Principal’s Report: Ms. Cruz provided the Principal’s report and shared the following updates:

·         MECA Afterschool activities started this month. Every day from Monday thru Thursday. We finally have tutoring and homework help available.

·         Sports afterschool also started this week (Lacrosse and Volleyball for boys).

·         Reminder that the school-based Health Center offers health services at No cost to parents. It is a benefit that doesn’t override the students primary care physician. Please fill out a consent form for the Center.

·         SYEP applications are due. The school is helping students to complete application.
