PTA Meeting Minutes 2023-05-17

MECA HS PTA General Meeting- May 17, 2023 Virtual meeting

Attendees: Josh Ehrlich (PTA President), Monica Soto (PTA Secretary), Vivian Cruz (School Parent coordinator), Sarah Kaplan (Principal), Julia Tseng, and Shelby Banks (PTA Secretary), .

 

Meeting Started 7:08pm with no Quorum of members. Members and Principal were participating on an In-person event at MECA HS.

PTA President Josh Ehrlich chairing the meeting. Monica Soto PTA secretary scribing the meeting notes.

1.  Approval of Minutes: no quorum to vote for approval of March and April General meeting minutes. To approve on next scheduled PTA meeting. Members can go to the www.mecahspta.org site and go to where all prior PTA meeting minutes are posted and review the March and April minutes.

2.      President’s Report- Josh Ehrlich:

·         The elections are scheduled tonight. If we do not have quorum we will try to schedule a special meeting for elections before the June General Meeting.

·         Josh asked for feedback for the PTA site and if the multilingual format is useful.

 

 

3.      Principal’s Report-: Ms Kaplan shared the following:

Updates:

-          End of year: Regents prep are happening on Saturdays. As well as extra help after school and breaks in the week. Any child who is interested in extra help is welcome.

 

Events

-          Community day is coming back to MECA on June 2nd, 2023. Last time was in Spring 2018. It is a special day to spend time as a group performing different activities: cosmetology, board games, games outside. It is a SURPRISE for kids!

-          Next Open House scheduled June 10th. Hosting with two sister schools in the building. All families come to visit each of the schools.

-          May 21st ABC 7 partner w Disney hosting an event Get Real for students interested in Media and Arts. Meet and greet industry professionals.

-          100% in Person Summer school will be in Governor’s Island. MECA will offer virtual options and possible other schools hosting students who had failed a major class. Summer schools invite will go to students who have failed at least a major.

-          Final round last week of May MECA REACT competition.

 

Shelby asked Ms Kaplan if MECA has selected the student that will receive the PTA scholarship. MS Kaplan informed the selection will happen in the next two weeks.

Ms Cruz reminded that on Saturday June 3rd FACE is hosting a Family event at Murry Building to showcase different community-based organizations.

4.      Treasury Report- Shelby: nothing to report. Shelby will share the last Treasury Report in the June PTA general meeting.
