PTA Meeting Minutes 2023-04-19
MECA HS PTA General Meeting- April 19, 2023 Virtual meeting
Attendees: Josh Ehrlich (PTA President), Monica Soto (PTA Secretary), Vivian Cruz (School Parent coordinator), Julia Tsengm, and Tischelle George.
Meeting Started 7:05pm with no Quorum of members. Members and Principal were participating on an In-person event at MECA HS.
PTA President Josh Ehrlich chairing the meeting. Monica Soto PTA secretary scribing the meeting notes.
Approval of Minutes: no quorum to vote. To approve on next scheduled PTA meeting. Members can go to the Mecahspta.org site and go to where all prior PTA meeting minutes are posted and review the March minutes.
President's Report- Josh Ehrlich:
PTA election is upon us and nomination process is now open. Nominations forms were distributed via email by Ms Cruz. We are asking to send back to Ms Cruz or email the PTA at ptainfo@mecahspta.org. Josh shared the nomination forms are available in the PTA website. We will take the nominations during the May general meeting. Josh reminded that the current board members will run again for the same positions. During the May meeting, each nominee will get the opportunity to speak.
The latest parent workshop will be next week on Wednesday April 27th. The working workshop title is a combination of the top voted topics Mental Health in Young people and dealing with stress.
We are looking for a new date for Breakfast at School fundraising event. WE have food donations focused on desserts. We need a minimum of two parents to run the event. WE will need more parents to volunteer to run the event for more than one day.
Members of the Student Leadership Team (“SLT”) are set. SLT is separate from PTA and include Parent members. The team will meet the second Wednesday of each month. We are just waiting for confirmation for the first meeting. Membership for SLT may change for next year. If interested, please email the PTA.
Josh shared PTA site where to find information about the upcoming Regents exam including the scheduled days for the June Regents by subject.
Principal’s Report- Ms Cruz: Ms Cruz shared the following updates and dates from Ms. Kaplan, our principal.
Updates:
Connect with Kids Network completed filming on Career day event at MECA. They are looking to expand the participants for next project.
Regent Help will be offered in classroom and extra help session. Depending on the teacher it could be offered during lunch time, Saturdays, or After school. Stay tuned from confirmation from the teachers.
Summer school will be again at Governors’ Island and offered to UA Harbor School and MECA. Waiting for a possible hybrid offer of summers school.
School-based Clinic will be available to students on hallways by the cafeteria to offer health info to students.
Events
April 21st- no school
April 24-26: Townhall RESPECT for all.
May 28th: MECA REACT camp.
New Business- Introducing Felecita Isaac, new BMCC-MECA Liason: Ms. Isaac joined us at this point of meeting. She works with Mr. Bryan and current BMCC faculty to ensure MECA students . IF you need any help, you can contact her at fisaac@meca-nyc.org. Ms Isaac also comes to school and have morning hours.
