Next PTA Meeting today, June 18th @ 7:00pm
Attendees: Josh Ehrlich (PTA President, Sarah Kaplan (Principal), Vivian Cruz (Parent Coordinator) Joelle Washington (elected PTA Treasurer), Monica Soto (PTA Secretary), Janine Jackson (Parent), iPhone-Belgica Minaya (Parent).
The josh started the meeting after confirming a quorum with 6 parents.

1. Approval of May Meeting minutes: Josh shared the screen to show the PTA website and showed where to find all the PTA general meetings minutes and opened the May meeting minutes. Josh highlighted that meeting notes was the election of the new PTA executive board elected. Josh motioned to approve the June meeting minutes, after a member seconded the motion, all parent members voted and approved the June minutes.
2. Principal’s Report: Ms. Kaplan mentioned she only had a few items to report:
a. We are celebrating that MECA started the MECA Honor Society and held its first chapter of members.
b. We were invited to the DOE Pilot program of a Virtual learning to explore a school-based hybrid experience. It is not clear about how this is going t ot look. Ms Kaplan is thinking to assign internship opportunity for students to earn Instructional credits. More information to come in September. Students may be required to consent for their child to participate if the student qualifies. floor and the other one outside of the building.
c. Lastly, the building will be closed during the summer. Calls to the school will be forwarded to our secretary and to staff working at the Governor’s island. Staff will return to the building on August 26.
Answering a parents’ question about communication to students about summer school, Ms Kaplan said that Summer school starts July 10th and that this week the school has been sending home information about transportation, directions to Governor’s island, and duration of Summer school. Because duration/hours will depend on how many credits student needs.
Another parent asked about the Regents being taking away. Ms Kaplan responded that she had heard the same thing that parents have heard, and form the news. There is a proposal shared to remove the graduation requirements but there will still be used for assessment. Ther idea is to replace the assessment with a better way to evaluate students. A parent shared feedback from her daughter history regent experience which was nothing about what was taught.
3. President’s report
Josh shared the PTA website and showed parents where to find resources. Josh continued informing that all our PTA general meetings will stay the 3rd Wednesday every month and will still be via zoom. The first meeting of the next school year will be September 18th.
Josh confirmed that graduation will be on Monday June 22nd from 11:00am to 1pm. The last day of school is June 26.
4. Treasurer’s Report: There is nothing to report. The last financial report of the school year is still in the works and will be prepared by Shelby as part of the Transition to Joelle.

6. New Business: no new items
The meeting adjourned without any more questions.
Josh asked parents to continue reviewing the PTA website and provide feedback about what they would like to add to the website.
