Affirmation Alliance

Our mission is to overcome negative thoughts about ourselves and become our best selves within a safe space.

- The club will be centered around giving students a community where they can be themselves and have a sense of belonging.

- Every member is given a journal to write positive affirmations and write what they are grateful for. This will increase self-confidence and overcome negative thoughts we have about ourselves.

- We will make personal vision boards that will help us to visualize our goals and dreams which in turn, will help us turn them into reality.

- Compliment cards-- write something positive about your peers.

American Cancer Society

We hope to spread awareness of cancer and it's dangers to my peers. We also hope to create an environment in which people who have been affected by cancer feel free to share their personal experiences. Finally, we hope to partner with the American Cancer Society to have possible fundraisers to raise money to donate to cancer patients.

Arthritis Club

Ever since I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 9, I have experienced firsthand the challenges and struggles associated with this chronic condition. Throughout my journey, I have come to realize the importance of spreading awareness about invisible disabilities, such as arthritis, and providing support to those who are fighting, just like me.

By establishing an Arthritis Awareness Club at our high school, I aim to create a platform where students can come together to learn, share experiences, and support each other. The club would serve as a hub for raising awareness about the impact of arthritis on individuals' lives and advocating for the needs and rights of those living with invisible disabilities.

Additionally, I am passionate about organizing fundraising events to contribute to the arthritis community. These funds would be directed towards initiatives that help improve the lives of arthritis patients, such as research, medical advancements, access to treatments, and support services.

Dawgs Against Substance Abuse (DASA)

The main objectives of DASA are to educate students about the effectiveness of Narcan, the dangers of drug abuse and the impact of addiction. We will also work to ensure that all students have Narcan available and encourage MCPS to enact more anti-drug measures within the school system. We will host meetings and fundraising sessions to raise awareness and funds to be distributed towards charities dedicated to prevention of drug use amongst students and the rehabilitation of people suffering from addiction. It will also be a safe space for students to be able to open up about personal experience with addiction, either personal or in family etc.

Diabetes 101

Did you know that according to the American Diabetes Association, 28% of 12-19 year-olds are diagnosed with prediabetes in America? As someone who recently found out they were prediabetic, it was a scary experience since it was not on my radar and I did not know what to expect.

The mission of Diabetes 101 is to improve the lives of those who are affected by diabetes or prediabetes and to educate people who are just curious about these conditions. It is a way for everyone to learn about nutrition, lifestyle habits, prevention, insulin care, emotional wellness, exercise, etc. Diabetes 101 will provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where everyone is encouraged to participate in group discussions sharing their insights, fears, and successes.

Heart to Heart

The Heart to Heart club seeks to give students a safe place to speak with a peer about anything that may be troubling them. A member will be assigned to a student (maybe based on the type of issue they would like to talk about - i.e. mental health related, family related, etc.) and the student will be allowed to talk about the issue(s). Members can also suggest additional support/resources a student should use to help them more. This will allow students to feel more connected and overall will allow the student body to grow, not shying away topics that may be difficult to discuss.

Mental Illness Matters

Mental Illness Matters (previously named Psych Literacy) has goals to increase the conversation of mental illness within WCHS by means of advocacy and increasing interpersonal relationships/community amongst those struggling with mental illness themselves. By sharing DBT coping skills and opening up a period of time each month to vent, share trauma, and problem solve with one another, we strive to facilitate a beacon of wellness and an outlet of validation. We will track our progress through journaling/writing. We also attend numerous mental health promotion events like local 5Ks, walks, restaurant fundraisers, etc.

Sanrio and Crafts

The point of our club is to provide a safe space for all individuals. It is made to be a place to provide people who feel out of place an opportunity to meet new people with similar interests (that being hello kitty/Sanrio for our club), while also being able to connect with others. We would have new crafts every meeting, allowing people to stay engaged and involved with the club. This is meant to provide a place throughout the stressful and chaotic school day where kids can hang out with peers and do hello kitty-themed crafts to have fun, helping them decrease their anxiety and stress levels.

Self-Improvement Club

The WCHS Self-Improvement Club (SIC) is a club that was created for all students who would like to establish a community of people looking to improve themselves in all aspects of their lives. Here, club members will have the ability to become better students, friends, athletes, etc. At SIC, we will utilize several resources from articles to books to learn how to enhance our physical, mental, and emotional well-being, all while relating lessons to current or past relevant events. If you are looking for a group of people to embark with on a journey of self-development, join our club!
