Asian American Alliance

We are the Asian American Alliance, a club dedicated to the promotion of culture from all across Asia! We host meetings every two months in Mr. Ho’s room (121), where we learn about cultures and traditions across Asia, celebrate Asian holidays, advocate against Asian discrimination, and discuss our experiences of what it’s like being Asian in the United States. We hope to allow a safe space for Asian Americans who want to share and speak about their culture and also a space for others to learn! Snacks will be provided. All are welcome - you don’t have to be Asian to join! We encourage club members to attend the bi-monthly meetings and show up ready to be kind and respectful.

Korean Culture Club

This club is able to help students educate and productively learn about South Korean cultures and various ethics. Such as traditional music, clothing, history, modern lifestyles, etc. The Korean Culture Club will be able to distribute Korean snacks, chips, and candy.

There are a good percentage of WCHS Students that have a South Korean or Korean-American ethnicity, so they will have opportunities to learn about their culture and where they came from.

Additionally, there are five WCHS Students whom are Freshman that have recently immigrated from South Korea. Korean Culture Club can show a great example and representation of the inclusitivity here at Churchill.

As South Korean communities have been recognized globally and internationally worldwide; such as the famous music genre K-pop, and awarded Korean movies and tv-shows, this club can be a great addition to Winston Churchill High School.

Yes, there are a few Asian-represented clubs. However, the Korean Culture Club is NOT a duplication of any other clubs. Korean Culture Club will go into into depth about the South Korean culture. Other schools in the DMV such as Thomas Jefferson High School at Farifax County High School, who has a variety amount of Asian-representation clubs, but also includes a Korean Culture Club.

Multicultural Christian Orthodox Club

Orthodoxy is a branch of the Christian faith that encompasses many different cultures, including Ukrainian, Russian, Antiochian, Greek, Romanian, Ethiopian, etc. The Multicultural Christian Orthodox Club will allow students who belong to these communities to come together and share details about their rich and diverse cultures, customs, and traditions. Even though there are different subgroups, we are all united through the one Orthodox faith. Students who are curious about Orthodoxy can come to learn about our faith and teach us about theirs as well. In such a diverse world, it is important to celebrate our diversity while finding our commonalities.
