Mental Practice/Visualization

Before practices or games, I used to sit in my locker with my headphones on and eyes closed, just walking through different skills, plays, actions in my head and going through the motions in my head. I would picture myself dribbling up to a defender, performing a 1v1 skill, seeing that opening as I enter the circle, and taking a shot at the far post, hearing the ball hit the backboard of the goal. Repeatedly going through those motions in my head. How does my body feel, what am I seeing, what am I hearing, what's the weather like, am I sweating.

If in previous practices, I had been struggling with a specific skill or concept, I practiced that over and over in my head. Performing that successfully over and over again.

Your mind is a muscle and muscle memory is a real thing. There is so much mental practice that goes into physical performance and that practice is done off the field.
