Prof. Nicolas Waldmann

Prof. Nicolas Waldmann is a geologist with a background in sedimentology and seismic stratigraphy analysis. He received his BSc and MSc from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his PhD from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Bergen (Norway). His major research interests focus on limnogeology and marine geology with applications to paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental reconstruction, while deciphering processes dominating deposition of sediments in both marine and lacustrine settings. Prof. Waldmann is particularly interested in deciphering the climate signatures imprinted in the sedimentary record through the amalgamation of physical, chemical, and biological proxies. Moreover, he contributes to studies related to the sedimentary architecture of basins, source-to-sink processes, basin environments, and hydrocarbon resources. He served as the national representative for ECORD (2015-2018), as a member of the Scientific Advisory Group of ICDP (2018-2021) and as the Israel National Correspondent of the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) (2020-2025). He is currently co-chair of the International Association of Limnogeologists (IAL).
