Central idea: Humans can explore their environment to understand the world around them.

Bedgebury Highlights

On Tuesday 16th January, the Early Years Foundation Stage took an adventure to Bedgebury. Despite it being cold, the children had lots of fun exploring the natural environment, building dens, making nests and playing on the play equipment.

Many enjoyed observing the frost, that coated the leaves and floor, disappear in the daylight. We observed the different colours in nature.

Aurelia said: "The best bit about Bedgebury was all the green."

This week we have focused our learning on the British sculptor and photographer, Andy Goldsworthy. We have been inspired by his "collaboration with nature" and as a result, we have created artwork inspired by him.

We have used the many natural resources in our classroom to create organic shapes and patterns.  While creating, the children developed their language by describing the different shells.

Dean: "This one is spiky. If you look carefully the colour is different inside."

Izabella: "This shell is so beautiful and smooth."

After creating patterns, we ventured back outside to collect natural materials to make sculptures. We were inspired by the Andy Goldsworthy's colour palette and decided to add yellow to our sculptures too.
