1Spruce    Learning Update

Central idea: The weather can affect how people live.

Spruce class have been learning about our planet and delving into line of inquiry two, 'An inquiry into different climates'. To do this we have been learning about the different continents and countries and the type of climate they experience depending on how close they sit to the equator. The children have created heat maps of the world to demonstrate their knowledge of hot, cold and temperate climates. This week we have been working in teams to create research projects about a climate zone. We have created wonderful artwork and writing based on these climate zones and will be presenting our findings to our friends to teach them more about each climate zone.

We finished our learning about 'The Snail and the Whale' and have begun looking at our new core text 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. Spruce class have been intrigued to learn more about Kenya and what life would be like for Lila in her village. We have been focussing on using adjectives to describe Lila's village and have been writing questions we would like to ask Lila.

In maths, we have been working hard to deepen our understanding of the teen numbers and have been revisiting our number bond knowledge to learn number bonds to 20. The children have been doing lots of physical activities to help them write number sentences.
