Central idea: Personal choices can affect the environment.

Lena has been touched by the story of the odd fish. At home, she made a seascape using recycled materials. She spoke to the class about her creative process before reinforcing the message to reduce, reuse, recycle.

Lena has been taking action outside of school too. When she spots litter on the floor, she picks it up and puts it in the bin.

"We don't want the fish in the sea to be poorly. Turtles and fish will think plastic bags are jellyfish and they will get sick!"

This week, we have used our phonic skills along with our ability to write high frequency words to compose a narrative. We have looked at the story 'Odd Fish' as inspiration for our writing.  The story is of a little fish who meets an odd fish bobbing up and down in the sea. Little fish returns the odd fish to his family which turns out to be a mass of plastic pollution floating in our oceans.

This has caused our youngest learners to feel quite upset.

Sophia said: If we don't throw litter on the floor and on the sand at the beach there won't be horrible plastic in the sea.

Archie said: Plastic shouldn't be in the sea it should be in the bin.

We have practised picking litter out of the sea on our quest to save the oceans, while developing our fine motor skills.
