Central idea: Children encounter a range of risks, challenges and opportunities.

The children have completed some assessments in reading and maths this week. They have all worked really hard and should be proud of themselves. Well done! They have also written a recount as though they were Malala Yousafzai on a terrifying journey that she made as a child. When the Pakistani army confronted the Taliban, they forced Malala and her family to leave their home and travel to live with relatives. Her family became 'internally displaced persons', separated from their father and did not know when they would be able to return home again. The children were really open-minded, caring and thoughtful about Malala's situation and produced some great writing.
