Central idea: Identity and thinking can be influenced by the media

Year 6 had an amazing opportunity on Thursday, when they were able to meet a real-life BBC sports broadcaster. Our guest, Mike Williams, works as a presenter alongside Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2. We are so fortunate that Mike gave us some of his time and that he was able to talk to us about his role within the media, and his career path. The children had some great questions for Mike and, they were of course, very interested to find out about many of the celebrities who Mike has met. How lucky we are that Mr Dosad knows Mike and that he was able to persuade him to let us have this insightful and inspirational time with him! There were certainly lots of children who were intrigued and loved the sound of his job.

The children have also been working on some artwork. We have been exploring the medium of printing through the style of Andy Warhol. We used bold colour paints to print leaves, and we also used styrofoam to print an image that we felt represented our identity. Our aim is to use each print to create a class canvas which has everyone's print on. We will keep you updated on this!

We have also been working very hard on long division in maths. This has tested the children's abilities to find multiples of numbers, specifically 2-digit numbers. To support this, we are discussing methods such as partitioning to find the necessary multiples.
