Principal's Message

This week I would like to take a moment to thank all the members of staff involved in both the Year 6 and Year 2 camping. I know these experiences mean a great deal to our children and without the sacrifices of a great number of adults, most of who are not teaching within these year groups, these events would not be able to take place.

I would also like to make a special mention to Miss Holness and Mrs Mason, who this week attended the LAT Awards after being shortlisted as finalists for Support Staff Award and Primary Teacher Award respectively. There were a total of 289 nominations, so making the shortlist is something to be very proud of. I believe that there will be an even greater number of nominations next year.

Finally, today you will receive your school reports and results of SATs. As a school, we have achieved better than pre-pandemic standards in EYFS, KS1 SATs and KS2 SATs and above National results also. We are incredibly proud and I look forward to sharing the official breakdown of our results shortly. One thing is certain though, Marden Primary Academy is a school going in the right direction, delivering great learning opportunities and results that your children deserve.

Extreme Heat Weather Warning

For the first time ever, The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for Sunday 17th July, Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July, as temperatures will build this weekend and early next week for much of England and Wales.

The red warning highlights likely adverse health effects for the public, not just limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat.

Temperatures could be in excess of 35°C in the southeast with Monday and Tuesday most likely to see temperatures around this level.

There is clear government guidance on looking after children and those in early years settings during heatwaves, including the use of ventilation, keeping children hydrated, avoiding vigorous physical activity, encouraging children to wear loose, light-coloured clothing and sunhats with wide brims, using sunscreen, and providing them with plenty of water.

We would like to reassure parents that we are adhering to these guidelines and will be doing everything we can to keep children cool and hydrated throughout the day. The children will be kept in the shaded areas of the field at break times/lunchtimes and we have erected a gazebo on the field for outdoor learning to take place for the mobile classroom if necessary. Children will be reminded to drink regularly and will have access to water dispensers at all times.

Please provide your child with a wide-brimmed sun hat for better protection and apply SPF 30 Sunscreen before they arrive at school.

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on 12 ways to champion equality online.

In terms of the esteem it’s held in, women’s football has made impressive progress in a short space of time. That’s a bit like the online world: it’s come a long way, but that doesn’t mean we should stop trying to make it even better. The Women’s European Football Championships are underway, and that’s a timely reminder of how important it is to give everyone the respect they deserve online – regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or anything else. In partnership with the Global Equality Commission, we’ve produced a special #WakeUpWednesday guide to help young fans kick online discrimination into touch!

In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential issues such as ‘pack mentality’, haters and discrimination.
