Course Description: In this course, students examine the world in a survey study of continents in which they learn about politics, economics, geography and social aspects of various places. Students dive into the cultures, regions and people of the world and will walk away with an understanding about how and why people interact with one another, as well as, with their environment. Through various process skills in social studies instruction, students will have a great foundation in maps, spatial patterns and inquiry of primary and secondary documents.

The goal of this course is for students to better understand the history, culture and legacy of Texas.

In this course, students develop their understanding of citizenry through the discovery and discussion of primary documents from multiple viewpoints. In preparation for STAAR, this course forces students to use their understanding of social studies skills learned in both 6th and 7th grade to reason and grapple with the ideas of all the people who constructed the political, economic, geographic, and social culture of the United States of America.

Students in this Honors course will be required to use their critical thinking skills to write several Document Based Question essays, as well as, communicate their point of view through classroom discussions using textual evidence to support their position.
