Course Description: The purpose of this course is to explore the foundations of our foreign language program with sampling of multiple languages. Students will discover the speaking and writing interactive process in which students learn to communicate with another foreign language speaker. Listening and reading develops students’ comprehension of foreign language. Additionally, students speak and write in a presentation to focus on organization of thoughts and awareness of audience in delivering information.

Course Description: This course begins the basic program in the Spanish language with the introduction to the communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary acquisition is a key element. Students will compare cultures and language, as well as make cultural community connections. This course stresses spoken communication in everyday situations but includes the visual reinforcement of reading and writing. Games, skits, videos, CD’s, and projects are used to reinforce language skills and to introduce various aspects of the culture.

Course Description:

This course reviews all the basic structures and vocabulary learned in Spanish I and continues with additional structures and vocabulary to increase language proficiency. This course stresses spoken communication in everyday situations, but includes the visual reinforcement of reading and writing. Games, skits, videos, CD’s, and projects are used to introduce various aspects of the culture.

Course Description:

This course further develops the four language skills developed through conversation, composition, and the study of poetry, short stories, novels, and plays. Critical thinking as well as communication skills are stressed in the reading and analysis of literature. Continued emphasis is given to oral proficiency, advanced level vocabulary and grammar structures, participation in class, presentations, discussion, and creative projects. This course is conducted primarily in Spanish.



AP SPANISH IV: LANGUAGE & CULTURE

Course Description: This course stresses all the necessary skills for active communication on an increasingly sophisticated level. This course is conducted almost entirely in Spanish and prepares students for the College Board AP Spanish Language exam. AP Spanish Language is comparable in content and in difficulty to a course in Spanish Composition and Conversation at the third-year college level. College credit and/or advanced standing may be achieved by demonstrating competence on the AP exam
