Modernizing Texas in an Age of Oil

1900-1929

The discovery of oil in Southeast Texas bolstered a boom that would be matched by few other industries for the next hundred years. The birth of the Texas oil industry at Spindletop, near Beaumont, would create a whole new industrial age, as the uses of crude oil would multiply, seemingly, overnight creating new jobs, technologies and products.
