Natural Texas and its People

1200's-1500's

Texas is composed of a vast variety of landscapes, which makes it one of the most unique places on Earth. From endless plains and rugged mountain ranges, to miles of sandy beaches and prominent escarpments, Texas has many diverse environments. The people that have inhabited this region of the world have had to adapt in many ways. Native Indian tribes settled and wandered the landscapes of Texas before the arrival of the first Europeans. It wasn't until the late 1800's that the last remaining tribes were forced out of the western portions of the state, where new settlements, cattle ranches and railroads soon took over the landscape. This UNIT looks at the geography and the early peoples of Texas.
