Republic of Texas and Early Statehood

1836-1861

After the struggles the Texians faced to gain independence, nationhood would prove to not be much easier. A struggling economy and differing political sentiments would only aid the thought that many Texans were already wanting to come true, "statehood". Becoming apart of the United States would be the "best" decision for many, but why did it take almost a decade to so so? This unit looks at the aligning and contrasting ideas of statehood that the struggling Republic would face.
