The LBS 150 challenge is still going strong over a year since it was launched. Students across all years have been very determined to complete the challenge by consistently fulfilling the requirements of the schools stimulating book review. Students are required to evaluate significant scenes, characters and important themes displayed throughout the book they are reading. In return for their rigorous academic work, they are awarded certificates, badges, lollies and more.
Year 9 in particular have made massive progress in completing their reviews this year. Here are some outstanding examples written by Year 9.
Sehaj S. (Seahawks)
Chooses Slumdog Millionaire by describing the setting as the slums in India and the very complicating relationship between the protagonist, Jamal and his best friend Salim.
Gurinder B. (Eagles)
Has identified key themes such as violence, family and gangs across the novel. He also rated his opinion on the story, giving it a 3/5.
Ashwath K. (Dolphins)
Identifies the troubles of the main character in the novel The Start of Me and You, along with themes of friendship, honesty and love. Ashwath has rated this a solid 5/5.
Akeel W. (Dolphins)
Akeel writes about his favourite part in the novel Half a World Away being the revelation of Kerry being ripped apart from her siblings during her childhood.
