This course is designed for students who may want to enter college as music majors or minors. This course will explore the fundamentals of musical content in both music theory and ear training. Within the music theory sequence, students will learn the basic building blocks of harmony (intervals, scales, triads, chords), species counterpoint, Roman numeral analysis, figured bass, four- part writing and the rules of voice leading, large-scale structures and form, chromaticism and modulation, twentieth-century musical concepts, and symphonic repertoire. In the ear-training portion of this course, students will work towards fluency in listening, singing, and dictation and transcription techniques. This course is a concurrent college level course with credit granted by the college.
