This is a two-‐year course that prepares students for occupations in the modern auto body collision repair industry. In the first year, students learn the basic skills and techniques using equipment that are up–to–date and currently used in the repair field today. Students are allowed to work on cars brought into class as they make progress in the course.

The auto technology program is designed to provide students with basic mechanical knowledge and skills. Students gain the knowledge and skills by doing repair work on customers’ cars, which are brought into the shop. The shop operates as a service garage in a large dealership. Students complete all repair work. The jobs range from a simple oil change to complex onboard computer systems. This two-‐year program is the first step in preparing an individual for a job in the automotive field. It prepares the student for entry–level employment as a service maintenance person, technician assistant, full technician, service station attendant and/or New York State inspector.

The construction technology course trains students in the fundamentals needed to enter the carpentry trade. Students are engaged in the construction of houses and additions to houses on and off the school campus. They are also involved in many other classroom activities that develop proficient carpentry skills.

One of today’s fastest growing career areas is Information Technology and computer related fields. Students in the Computer Technology program will be involved in the construction, operation and repair of PC systems and devices, as well as networking fundamentals, cabling LAN’s and WAN’s, networks application, CISCO IOS Software, router configuration and more. Industry certification and college credit are both attainable.

Cosmetology is a 2-‐year work preparation program offering students instruction and practical experience in the skills and theory necessary to become a New York State licensed cosmetologist. Satisfactory completion for the course and its 1000 hours of instruction are required to make a student eligible to take the state licensing exams. The cosmetology program offers students the unique opportunity to develop and practice their skills during a regular weekly clinic when the public is invited to make appointments for beauty services. Students will also produce a marketable portfolio during this course. Students will be responsible to purchase their own uniform and cosmetology kit.

Students begin the course by learning the fundamentals of baking, salad making, and food preparation. After basic concepts in the three areas are learned, a student is allowed to specialize in one of the areas. The course is designed to give students the skills necessary to obtain employment in large restaurants specializing in family–style cooking. This is one of the finest food preparation courses offered to high school students in New York State. Students develop skills in all aspects of food preparation since they are responsible for the successful operation of two restaurants on campus, The Class Act and The Electric Apple. Every day they gain experience in preparing gourmet soups, sauces, salads, meat, poultry and seafood entrees, and desserts. The art of buffet preparation, garnishing, and plate composition are important aspects of the program. A three–week internship program provides students with additional on–the–job training to reinforce the principles taught in the classroom. This course prepares students for entry-‐ level positions in the local job market as well as for many post–secondary situations.

This course is offered to students who want to work with young children. Students learn about the characteristics, needs, and behavior of three and four year olds and learn how to care for them in a nursery school setting. After learning basic skills, students operate a nursery school for 20 children four days a week. Each high school student in the course is expected to participate in all phases of running the nursery school. On Fridays, students plan activities for the following week and study child development through lectures, discussions, observations, films, speakers and occasional field trips. Graduates may find employment in day care centers, nursery schools, and parks and recreation departments. Graduates continue their education in nursery and elementary education at 2 and 4-‐year colleges.
Heavy Equipment
Located at Tracey Road Equipment in Syracuse , the two-year Heavy Equipment Operations and Diesel Repair Technology program is designed to offer students essential skills in the operation and repair of heavy equipment and heavy-duty diesel trucks using the latest techniques and computerized diagnostic equipment. Students will gain daily practical experience working with a variety of engines and equipment that will prepare them for employment opportunities or furthering their education at college and technical schools. Students may be eligible to earn industry certifications in safety training and equipment operation. A Career and Technical Endorsement on their high school diploma will signify that students have met the rigorous industry standard upon successfully passing a technical assessment.

This is a collaborative program between OCM BOCES, WCNY, and Onondaga community College. It is designed to introduce high school juniors and seniors to the world of communication through radio, television, social media, and print. Working with professionals in the various studios and departments located at the site, students learn and apply skills to help them become effective communicators who understand how a message translates between different types of media, whether it's a social media buzz on a current topic, a TV show, a radio program, or a monthly version of a magazine. As students progress through the units of study they are introduced to guest speakers, shadowing experiences, field shoots, and industry based assignments. It is designed to help high school students develop their public speaking abilities, presentation skills and interviewing techniques. They may also acquire 18 college credits, a Regents High School diploma, and application industry certifications making them both college and career-‐ready.

This program offers multiple entry and exit points for students interested in learning and applying sciences in the health care field. PM students will complete requirements for “Health Care”; the NYS Introduction to Health Occupations Proficiency exam, and receive training which enables them to sit for the NYS exam for Nurses Aide certification. The AM session will complete the “Health Prep” portion of the course, which will include anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and medical ethics. This session enables graduates to continue their education in the health care professions at such places as OCC, the BOCES LPN program, Crouse Irving and St. Joseph's Schools of Nursing, Syracuse University, and Keuka College. After 2 years and 108 clinical hours, students will be eligible to take the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam.

The Laboratory Technician program provides students with a balance of theory and hands-‐on learning activities specifically designed to prepare them for college or the workforce. Students will experience laboratory setup and procedures, sterilization, specimen collection, slide and sample preparation, biotechnology, phlebotomy, cellular cultures, and more. This program will offer college credit and certification in various career fields.

The employment outlook for skilled physical therapist assistants is expected to increase over 43 percent from 2010 to 2020. Demand for physical therapy services is expected to increase in response to the healthcare needs of an aging population. This course will give the students knowledge and technical skills that will prepare them for an entry-‐level position in a Physical Therapy field, as well as offer a path to entering higher education in a Physical Therapist Assistant college program. Work-‐based learning sites are developed in the second year to allow the opportunity to intern and shadow at local Physical Therapy Practice. 13 college credits can be earned through concurrent enrollment with OCC.

Skilled Welding Technicians have multiple job options and are a vital link in the manufacturing, construction and facilities maintenance industry. Welding technology program teach students arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, as well as cutting, heat-‐treating and metallurgy. Students gain knowledge of electrical systems, power sources and different welding technologies, as well as the use and interpretation of visual symbols related to welding. The welding technology program includes technical math and science, welding systems, print interpretation and measurement.
