The purpose of the Week of Inspiration is to provide experiences where students will connect, engage and explore a variety of provocations to spark their curiosity about exhibition issues/opportunities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This week the students will hear from various guests speakers from the UN and further afield, make connections to their passions, explore the UN as an organisation and the SDGs, and be inspired by other people's action!

"I like how they were motivated to make a change in the world" - Cristian
"I liked how they were down-to-earth and easy to listen to and not boring" - Ambrozia
"Look how many notes I wrote about crypto currency!" - Geanine
"I like how the cryptocurrency boys made a profit and gave money to charities" - Sarah
" I really liked hearing from our guest speaker Beatrice the entrepreneur. She did many jobs and she searched for her passion. She even took some time off to give her brain a break. Following your passion is a good message". - Niall
"I liked Mr Anthony’s presentation, he was really passionate about electric cars and he is helping Australian emissions by importing electric cars. He even took us for a ride in the electric car!" Sienna
"I liked Mark and Amaan, the crypto guys. They gave helpful advice about the PYPx and their topic was really interesting." - Alicia
Connections to themes and SDGs
This year for the first time at LIS, students will be able to chose which transdisciplinary theme the use to guide their inquiry. To help get to know how different issues can been seen through different lenses, students made connections from the UN sustainable development goals to the important words and phrases in each theme.
Library Scavenger Hunt and Tech Agreement
We searched the Secondary and Primary libraries to familiarise ourselves with the resources available to us in the PYPx!
"The scavenger hunt was really enjoyable, it helped me learn more things about the library" - Favour
"It was fun! It made me have a lot of knowledge about the library! I don't know how Ms B knows all the numbers and spots of the books!" - Martim
"Is a hammer good or bad?"
"Is a marker good or bad?"
"Is a computer god or bad?"
What is the common factor? The user!
So important to remember to use technology safely and responsibly to be organised and principled during the exhibition.
Visual Arts Inspiration
In Visual Arts students were inspired by a local artist, Parasol, who shared his sculptures with Year 6 students, talked about his process and what inspired and motivated him to express himself this way. Students were also inspired by Year 13 students who were sharing their final art projects.
Student Reflections
"I liked how they all had used different mediums. I especially liked the fish eye painting." - Ambrozia
"I liked how the fish eye had a meaning about how she felt in quarantine and how she used colour to represent that." - Sonia
Action Analysis
Analysing action helps students to understand different form of action. Smaller actions don't mean they are less meaningful. Sometimes they are harder to identify because we do them without thinking but nevertheless they are just as important and possibly even more sustainable.
"The Action Flipgrid really made me think about different kinds of action" - Caleb
"I liked learning about action because I thought action was just one thing." - Eliane
Literacy and Maths Inspiration
How will reading, writing and maths be incorporated into the exhibition. Students thought about how to end their primary education by showcasing the skills they have learned over the years. How writing can cause CHANGE and how reading give us POWER.
Year 11 Personal Projects
Year 6 students were able to watch 3 Year 11 personal project presentations. It was so interesting to see how many connections and commonalities there were between our PYP exhibition and their Yr 11 Personal Projects. They shared their reflections on ATLS, and their challenges and successes, the had a mentor and an advisor, they took action and were inspired by others. They were also very inspiring to us at the same time!
