This week Year 6 took a field trip to celebrate their hard work and the halfway point of exhibition. They went to the local boxing gym in Talatona for a workout focused on fun and wellness! We sure saw some talent and enthusiasm!
Opening Ceremony Preparation
Our opening ceremony preparation is underway! Ms Danielle is supporting all year 6 students in composing and performing their own song, preparing drama skits and plays, interesting verbal 'teasers' for their research and confident MCs to lead the ceremony! This will be a totally student driven and student led ceremony, it's a very exciting event!
Present, Connect, Reflect #2 - with parents
Students prepared once again to share their process so far with their parents and teachers. This included everything we have been working on in weeks, 3, 4 and 5. Students are developing their confidence with presenting now and this is all leading up to them being able to present their online and their face-to-face exhibition. It's really nice to have the opportunity to connect with other parents too and for parents to speak with children other than their own, to connect the community together!
Interviews
Students have been actively seeking out experts to interview about their issues. Some have been found via our 'volunteer expert page', which has been really helpful! While others have been reaching out to experts they have found whilst conducting their research. Students are developing their email writing skills and improving their questioning and note-taking.
Caleb interviewed Mr Delali, an MYP maths teacher from Ghana, about his experience with water pollution in Ghana,
Diara and Lueji interviewed Ikena Carreira, who works for the UNFPA, about child marriage in Angola.
Surveys
Some students have decided that to aid their research they need to collect information and data for people within our community about their issue. If this is the case they have been working on preparing a survey, using google forms. Please feel free to help our researchers by completing any surveys that you feel particularly connected to.
The doc with links to all the surveys and who they are targeted at will be added below very soon.
Library Research
Students have been using their library time to find books for their research. They are learning more about how to use the catalogue and are starting to navigate their transitons to the secondary library with the help of Ms. B!
