A day of community building and team work to kick off the PYP Exhibition 2022! Year 6 students will be engaged in many activities throughout the day in collaboration with secondary school teachers. They will have lots of fun and remain at school until 8pm for a BBQ dinner cooked by our own Primary Principal and a campfire sing-a-long with toasted marshmallows!
Science Challenge
Lead by Ms Jeannette, an MYP Science Teacher, Year 6 students were given 10 challenges and 5 minutes to compete each one. If they complete the challenge alone they earned 3 points, if they needed a hint to complete the challenge they earned 1 point and if they didn't complete the challenge they earned 0 points. The top 2 teams earned 17 and 14 points!!
Arts Challenge
Ms Caroline, an MYP music teacher, and Mr Andy, an MPY drama teacher, lead this activity in two groups. With Mr Andy students used performing arts skills to act out charades, create freeze frame snapshots and play the game 'splat'. With Ms Caroline, students learned and performed a Samoan style dance involving body percussion.
Pool Fun
Students enjoyed rotating between 3 stations to finally get a break from the hot weather and relax and have fun in the swimming pool!
Field Games
Lead by Mr Romão, Ms Jess, Mr Ali and Mr Paul, students worked as a team to use strategy and collaboration in the game 'capture the flag'.
Design Challenge
Lead by Miss Amy, 6.2 Homeroom Teacher, students were tasked with protecting an egg from a drop from a second floor balcony. There were 8 groups with a box of the same materials they needed to use to create a parachute and a protective case for the egg. By completing one group challenge they were able to earn one bonus item of material to use in the design and make their design unique and different from the others. Out of the 8 groups, there were 7 successfully protected eggs!! Well done designers!
Predator and Prey
Lead by Miss Nadia, 6.1 Homeroom Teacher, Predator and Prey is a complex game based around the levels in a food chain. One human with a water pistol can kill any animal. Carnivores can kill omnivores and herbivores. Omnivores can kill herbivores and herbivores cannot kill any other animal, but they can collect water and food. The game lasts 60 minutes and the aim is to still have lives left at by the end!
Dinner and Campfire sing-a-long
Finally time for dinner! The BBQ with delicious sausages, cheese and salad was prepared by Mr Chris, MS Lindsay and My Julz, our Primary Principal, Vice Principal and PYP Coordinator. Students enjoyed delicious food while watching the sunset over the school field, a unique experience indeed. We then sang some campfire songs and told ghost stories to end this wonderful day!
